Prayer Beads

Nichiren Buddhist use prayer beads known as Juzu. The Juzu is held in the hands during gongyo and daimoku. The prayer beads have 108 beads that represent the number of earthly desires common mortals have.

When using the Juzu it is first twisted into a figure eight. The end with two tassels is placed over the third finger of the left hand. The other end with three tassels is placed over the third finger of the right hand. The tasseled ends lie on the outside of the hands, which are placed together with palms and fingers touching each other.
